14/09 BOYCOTT Talks: Manuel Marsol

Boycott Talks – we invite illustrators, designers or artist to talk about their work in a specific context. Our guests cover a wide range of topics from animation, book illustration, editorial design, to styles, techniques, and inspiration.   We are thrilled to have the author/ illustrator Manuel Marsol & poet Carmen Chica as our next guests for BOYCOTT Talks. For several years now, they have been working on various picture books projects together. We published their latest award-winning picture book ‘De berg’ (Boycott, 2018) almost a year ago so it’s about time to introduce them personally to the Dutch public. They will be talking about their working dynamic, new book projects and what is it that makes a picture book good.   For Manuel, making a picture book is akin to making a film: all the ideas and decisions, from the structure to the cover, need to be consistent to reinforce the concept of the book. When working on picture books he keeps in mind this quote by Jan Svankmajer (filmmaker and artist): “Surrender to your obsessions. There is nothing better. Obsessions are the relics of childhood. And the most precious treasures come from the depths of childhood.”   Program: 16.00 Start of presentation 17.00-17.30 Manuel Marsol’s favorite picture/comic/ illustrated books 17.30 – 18.00 Q&A 18.00 Drinks & books signing Event on Facebook: www.facebook.com/events/493756914529166/
